I don't know if anyone reads this anymore, but here is a picture of my first coleonyx hatchling, 3/28/09 after 58 days at 81 degrees. The clutchmate hatched on 3/29 and looks just like this one except two of the bands merged to form a "Y" shape.

I have not a banded gecko Geckos. Can anyone tell me how the care for Coleonyx compares to that of not a banded gecko? Specifically I want to know about Coleonyx Elegans. Where are they found naturally? I would also like to know about species native to the Western United States. I want to learn all that I can about Coleonyx before I try to keep one. Might you be able to help me? Thank you in advance. I hope this community flourishes. I'm glad to be here.

I have a 3.5" male that was purchased this September at a show. It has never been a great eater (1-2 small crickets per week). It initially ate 2 at a time and is now only eating one a week if I am lucky. It is getting skinnier and has never had a fat tail like some photos I have seen or my not a banded gecko gecko. I assume it wants to hibernate but I am reluctant to due to its state. Any pointers would be great. The not a banded gecko right beside it won't turn down a meal. It is ...

Hello all, my name is Steve. I'm into all sorts of herps but frogs and geckos are my main focus. I like small stuff that takes to natural vivariums easily. Right now I have a breeding group (1.3) Dwarf dune geckos and a group of viper geckos (along with the obligatory not a banded gecko geckos) but I just got back from the Chicago all animal expo with my first trio of Coleonyx brevis. Coleonyx is my favorite group and I have kept C. elegans in the past but this will be my first attempt at ...

Currently I have 1.3 coleonyx v.b. in a front opening tank with the floor space of a 20 gallon long. There are 2 issues I'm trying to deal with:

1. Substrate: I'm reluctant to put them entirely on sand or other particulate because of fear of impaction and also not wanting to have to dig up the whole cage every time someone lays eggs. At the moment I have ceramic tile on the bottom of the cage, several hides on top of the tiles and four shallow dishes: 2 tupperware containers filled with ...

I'm thinking for now I'll stick with small crickets. My kids are about 2.5" atm and I don't think they could handle mealies yet. I would like to vary their diets as they get older, though, like maybe adding mealworms to their regimen. What all do you guys feed your coleonyces (sp--lol)?

I see that there is very little traffic here, and few members, which is a shame, because I really like these little guys and would love to talk about them more. Rather than just complain, I figure I'd post a few messages and see what happens. I am on several other forums where there is either a coleonyx section or where the topic comes up. Do people here want me to publicize this forum there? Please let me know.

I'm Aliza, user name "acpart". I'm primarily a not a banded gecko gecko breeder and also have a crestie, a bearded dragon, 2 day geckos and a pair of AFT's. Someone on my other forum showed her new coleonyx varietgatus bogerti a few years ago and I was fascinated. Eventually she had to get rid of them and sold them to me. Of the 3 originals, I only have the female left and during the summer I got a small colony of 1.3 from someone. After quarantine, my female fit right in. Unfortunately, ...

I'm 40-ish , married, three kids. Like many of you, I've been fascinated with lizards all my life. Growing up in south Florida gave me plenty of opportunity to catch and keep many different species of exotic pet. All these years later, I'm still a sucker for scorpions and geckos.

I'm retired, and have had a very successful business of supplying various zoos and university programs with invertebrates. Having passed that torch onto others, I'm now focusing on building a large breeding ...
